Rebecca Black Made Six Figures From "Friday"

Rebecca Black’s video for “Friday” is no longer available on the site that made her a viral sensation in March. Earlier this week, the video was made available on Youtube with a $2.99 rental fee, and later removed altogether.

The video and song are at the center of a three-way legal battle among Black’s lawyers, the producers who say they wrote the song, and the studio Black’s parents hired to record it.

So how much money is at stake?

The Atlantic Wire crunched the numbers, and estimates the Youtube revenue, song downloads, and fees for personal appearances and television licensing for Black’s “Friday” has generated somewhere in the high six figures.

Youtube gets around $1 per every million views from advertisers, and shares 68 percent of that with its content creators. With its 137 million views since being uploading in March, the shared revenue for “Friday” should equal about $115,000, writes The Atlantic Wire.

The nearly 160,000 downloads of “Friday” reported in April would equal about $200,000. That number has likely doubled since April, however.

Black has also been able to capitalize off of the hit, appearing in Katy Perry’s video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and her song has been performed on shows such as Glee and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

As for Black, the 13-year-old caught in the middle of the fight, earlier this week she tweeted her confusion over the fee that was temporarily added to the "Friday" video:

"Thanks for all the messages regarding the $2.99 fee added to Friday video, I have NOTHING to do with this!!"
