Ke$ha intimidates men, is on News Of The World

TOUGH-talking chart-topper Ke$ha might have the pop world at her feet - but men are still intimidated by the wild star.

The US singer has become an inspiration to young fans and is famous for her outspoken attitude.

But Ke$ha, 24, tells Rated: "I was the gawky kid at school. It's empowering for me and all the girls who aren't beauty queens or cheerleaders to see someone succeed by being strong and opinionated."

"It's important to show that women can be so much more than sex objects - you'll never see me just sitting there looking pretty. Maybe some guys are put off from approaching me because I intimidate them but, if so, good. Guys should be scared of me!"

"I realise I polarise opinions, but you can either join my party or f*** off, because I'm not going anywhere."

One guy who did approach Ke$ha was British pop star Calvin Harris, when she supported Rihanna on an Australian tour in March. Just the mention of his name brings the motormouth singer to a dead stop and a sweet smile steals across her face. They reportedly spent the night together after a show in Melbourne. Ke$ha says coyly: "You'd have to ask Calvin about it, I don't remember a thing about that night."

For a girl who's got attitude to spare - she recently shocked one music press journalist by admitting to stripping off for nude painting sessions - Ke$ha is staying uncharacteristically tight-lipped.  But she hints the pair are working together. "I'm writing songs with a bunch of other musicians who I can't name - one of whom I may or may not have made out with on tour."

Ke$ha put the dollar sign in her name as a reminder of the days when she was so broke she lived in her car and combined songwriting with working as a waitress. Today, she has a luxury pad in her native Nashville, Tennessee - but she's been so busy promoting her platinum-selling debut album Animal/Cannibal that she hasn't had chance to sort it out.

Ke$ha admits: "Since January, I've spent maybe five days at home. All there is at my house is piles of clothes, a ripped couch that I bought at a charity store and a mattress - not even a full bed."

As she prepares to embark on her first British tour, Ke$ha wouldn't rule out living here one day. "I love being in London because it's really inspiring as a songwriter."

And she can't wait to bring "the rowdiest dance party of the year" to Britain either. The singer of No1s "Tik Tok" and "We R Who We R" also reckons her party lifestyle will influence her second album.

"I'm immersed in 70s rock and roll," she says. "My next record will have that era's energy. I'm not that much of a modern girl. I only play old vinyl records, and I think the internet is a pain in the ass. I've read things online that make out my songs are the biggest atrocities. That gets to me but I try to inspire my fans to brush off criticism."

"All I'm trying to do is make people happy and make people dance."

Ke$ha tours from July 3, and plays festivals Glastonbury and T In The Park.
