Kevin Keller getting married, Archie's first gay character!

The past few years have been a busy period for Archie Comics in terms of prepping stories for the wholesome teen cast of Riverdale that are custom fit to hit the national press. From the initial alternate future marriages of Archie to Betty and Veronica on through to the current crossover with rockers KISS, the publisher hasn't shied away from potential pop culture crossovers. And now, they're taking their most talked about new character and adding a hot button twist.

This January, Kevin Keller – Archie's first openly gay character – will be joining the grown up cast of the company's "Life With Archie" magazine where he'll be headed down the aisle. The publisher teased the info at a panel at Comic-Con International this past July and now has confirmed via press release that the story will take place in "Life With Archie" #16. While gay marriage has proven a contentious political issue across America the past few years, this is the first time such a ceremony will appear in a mainstream comic from a major publisher. (Apollo and Midnighter? No?...)
